The 2023 Canada Winter Games will be held next February 18 to March 5 in Prince Edward Island. Table Tennis is an official sport that will take place during the first week of the games with provincial teams of 2 male and 2 female athletes. The age classification of the table tennis event is Under 19 as of December 31, 2022 (Year of Birth 2004 or later). Due to COVID restrictions that have been in place for much of the past two years in our province, the NLTTA has not been able to run its normal slate of tournaments and events which have in the past helped us identify and select our Canada Games team. To help the NLTTA determine the most appropriate path towards selecting its 2023 team, we are inviting interested players who meet the age requirements to contact our 2023 Canada Games coach, Jeremy Lehr, by email at [email protected] Based on the amount of response received, the NLTTA will then determine the most appropriate means of selecting the team, either through selection camps, playdown tournaments or a combination of both with the end goal of having a team selected by late fall or early winter of 2022. Interested and eligible players are asked to email Coach Lehr directly at the email address above, stating their name, location, and birthdate (including year), no later than Friday, May 6, 2022.

For the first time in two years, the NLTTA was able to successfully hostly the NL Closed on March 19 in Paradise.  Complete results can be found here.

The first event of 2020 took place Feb. 1 in Carbonear.  Just over 20 players registered and competed in a day of highly competitive and entertaining matches.  For full results click here.

The next two events on the NLTTA Calendar in 2020 will be the CBN Open in Carbonear on Saturday, Feb. 1 and the NL Closed in Paradise on Saturday, March 28.  Keep an eye out for further registration details as the events get closer.

Riverside Elementary in Clarenville hosted this years Eastern Open on Nov. 30 and saw over 30 players registered.  Complete results can be found here.

The Paradise Open was hosted on Nov. 2 at the Paradise Recreation Center with approximately 30 competitors.  Complete results can be found here.

The 2019 season kicked off with the Central Open in Springdale on Oct. 19.  Approximately 20 players competed in a full day of competition.  Find complete results here.

The last event on this years NLTTA's calendar, the CBN Open, took place Saturday, March 30 at Carbonear Collegiate.  Close to 30 players took part in a full day of competitive play.  Complete results can be found here.  This was the last opportunity to earn points towards selection for Team NL for the Atlantic Championships in Dartmouth in May, final standings can be viewed here.  Some pictures taken throughout the day can be found in our picture collection.

Riverside Elementary hosted the Eastern Open on December 15 and once again we saw an excellent turnout at an NLTTA event this year with over 30 players registered.  Special thanks to Eastern Rep, Jamie Hibbs for running this event as well as a group of volunteers who ran a canteen to raise money for our team travelling to the Canada Games this February.  Complete results can be found here.  Updated points standings for Team NL selection can be found here.

Over 30 players took part in the Avalon Open hosted in Paradise on November 24.  Singles and doubles action took place for a jammed packed day of Table Tennis.  Complete results can be found here.  Updated points standings for Team NL selection can be found here.

The NLTTA kicked off the 2018-19 Table Tennis season in Springdale with the Western Open on November 3.  Twenty-eight players took part in very competitive and exciting matches throughout the day.  Special thanks to Denise Simms and Ruth Cameron for running the event, which ran smoothly all day long.  Complete results can be found here.  As well, some pictures taken throughout the day can be found here.

On Saturday, June 2, 21  players gathered at Dorset Collegiate, Pilley’s Island, to compete in the Central Open, the last NLTTA tournament of the year.  Players demonstrated their skills at a very high level and a great display of sportsmanship was shown.  Complete results can be found here and some pictures of medal winners found here.

The 2018 NL Closed Provincial Championships took place April 21 at the Paradise Rec Centre.  With over 50 participants entered, this was the largest tournament the NLTTA has hosted in many years.   A long day of competition saw a full slate of events completed, including singles, doubles and mixed doubles.  Complete results can be found here.  As well current points standings for Canada Games Qualification can be viewed here and final points standings for this years Team NL which will compete at next months Atlantic Championships can been viewed here.

Deer Lake was the Host for the 2018 Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games taking place from March 10-18.  Over 1300 athletes competed in 12 sports, including table tennis, which took place during the second half of the games.  Forty table tennis athletes, representing 5 different regions participated in Male and Female Team competitions as well as individual age events.  It was an excellent three days of competition with numerous entertaining and competitive matches taking place.  Special thanks to all the volunteers who helped make the event run so smooth.  Final results can be found here and pictures from the event can be viewed here.

The NLTTAs first event of 2018, the CBN Open, took place in Carbonear February 17 with 39 players entered in the competition.  An excellent and competitive day of Table Tennis took place with points awarded toward selection for Team NL and the 2019 provincial Canada Games team as well as a variety of other events.  View complete results here.

The 2018 Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games will be taking place this March 10-18 in Deer Lake and we are pleased that Table Tennis is once again a participating sport. The NLTTA is currently seeking individuals who are interested in serving as Regional Coaches in each of the 8 Winter Games Regions (St. John’s North, Mount Pearl South, Avalon, Eastern, Central, Western, Labrador and the Host region).

Interested individuals should email [email protected] by September 25, 2017 expressing their interest and outlining their qualifications as well as indicating which region they wish to coach.

With the conclusion of the NLTTAs 2016-17 tournament schedule, the NLTTA has selected members of this years provincial team who are eligible to represent the province at the upcoming Atlantic Table Tennis Championships in Prince Edward Island in May.  This years team selection was done with the use of our new selection criteria which saw players accumulate points at NLTTA events throughout the year.  Complete selection criteria can be found here.  Members of this years team include:  Brianna Warren (Female U-18), Sarah Warren (Female U-18), Karlee Warren (Female U-18), Ty Winsor (Male U-18), Michael Hiscock (Male U-18), Joshua Waterman (Male U-18), Michelle Downey (Senior Female), Elahe Shekari (Senior Female), Zsuzsanna Magyarosi (Senior Female), Nick Hiscock (Senior Male), Jerry Hiscock (Senior Male) and Adam Hiscock (Senior Male).  Complete final qualifying standings for the year can be viewed here.

The NLTTA is currently looking for interested individuals to fill the role of Team Manager for the provinces Table Tennis Team and the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.  Complete information can be found here.

This years NL Closed Championships were originally scheduled to take place March 11 in Paradise.  However, due to events outside the NLTTA's control, the venue had to close with only a few of our events complete.  An alternate event took place two weeks later at Carbonear Collegiate to crown provincial champions.  Almost 20 players were able to make the rescheduled event on the short notice and a very competitive day of table tennis took place.  Complete results can be view here.

The Central Open took place at Jane Collins Academy in Hare Bay on March 4.  The tournament attracted both locals and players from a number of other clubs in the province, and by all accounts was a success.  Complete results can be viewed here.

As part of the Town of Carbonear's Winter Fest, the CBN Table Tennis Club hosted the TC Square Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 18 in the Trinity Conception Mall.  This was the first time a tournament has been held in a mall in Newfoundland and Labrador and it featured 11 of the top players in the province who accepted invitations to play in the cash prize tournament.  The event was a huge success, generating significant attention and interest from mall goers who had never viewed table tennis at such a high level.  Matches throughout the day were highly competitive and entertaining.  In the end Dennis Sanchez Mora of the MUN TT Club defeated Nick Hiscock of the CBN TT Club, 3 games to 1 in an well played Championship match.

The NLTTA's premier event will be taking place Saturday, March 11 in Paradise at the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre.  Registration must be done online here by March 4.  This will be the last tournament to earn points for provincial team selection.

The NLTTA will this year be hosting the Central Open for the first time at Jane Collins Academy in Hare Bay on March 4.  To play, you must register in advance here prior to February 24.  

 The 2016 MUN Open took place at the Field House on the St. John's Campus of Memorial University on Saturday, December 4.  This was the first time in many years that the MUN Open has been held and by all accounts it was a great success with nearly 50 players registering to compete, with many being first time competitors at a NLTTA event.  Results here available for viewing.   You may also view pictures taken throughout the day here.

On November 19 and 20, the NLTTA hosted its second Introduction to Competition Coaching Clinic, this time at Corner Brook Regional High School.  Six candidates completed the course that was delivered by NCCP Certified Coach Brian Ash.  There is the possibility of this course being offered at additional locations in the new year.  Keep an eye to this website for further information or contact [email protected] if you are interested. 

For the first time in many years, the NLTTA will be hosting the MUN Open at the Field House at Memorial University in St. John's on December 3.  Register online here.  The deadline is November 28.  

On the weekend of October 29 the Western Open took place in Pasadena at the new recreation centre.  This was the first time in a number of years that the Western Open was held and it turned out to be a successful return to the NLTTA calendar.  For a list of results click here.

On the weekend of October 22-23, four candidates completed the Introduction to Competition Coaching Clinic in Bay Roberts.  The course was conducted by NCCP certified instructor Brian Ash and was offered free of charge by the NLTTA to interested candidates.  A second clinic is being held in Corner Brook on the weekend of November 19-20.  If you are interested in participating contact [email protected]

Congratulations are extended to all participants in the recent weekend course. Six candidates attended the course that was offered by Joe Fisher of Table Tennis Canada in Carbonear on the weekend of September 16-18. The six candidates were all successful with the “B” level certification. They will continue on acquiring full certification after the submission of their “draw” and the completion of the Provincial Umpire Exam.
