How is everyone doing? Hope you are getting a chance to unwind while enjoying the summer weather.
It is the summer but there have been a few items that are table tennis related that need to be shared from tournament dates for next season to the Junior National Championships that just concluded.
NLTTA Coaches Visit Hopedale
The first weekend in July, three coaches from the island (Jin Chen, Nick Hiscock and Jeremy Lehr) travelled to Hopedale on the north coast of Labrador to run a three day table tennis training clinic. Athletes from Hopedale and Nain attended the camp which acted as a Canada Games identification camp as many of these athletes will be eligible to tryout for the 2027 Canada Winter Games team and even the 2031 games. Thanks to McKinley and Darlene Winters of Hopedale for working hard on securing funding for these opportunities and we are happy to be going back to run some more camps in the upcoming fall and winter seasons. Lots of great talent for such a small isolated place, it’s very impressive!
Junior National Championships

The Junior National Championships, held in Richmond, BC from July 20-23, had a NLTTA representative. Peishan Chen made the journey to compete in her first Junior Championships. She won two matches at U11 group stage and placed second in her group. Though she wasn’t able to enter the elimination stage as only the group winner advanced her performance was impressive and surely exceeded all expectations. Her father Jin, indicated that he believes she will work hard after this and get ready for the next Junior Championships. They wish to thank all her coaches for their hard work and the NLTTA for the support provided.
Upcoming Season Tournaments
The 2025-26 season is fast approaching and many clubs will be starting up in a early September. At the moment two tournament dates for next season have been finalized. The Paradise Open is set for October 11, 2025 at the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre while the same venue will be spinning on March 21, 2026 for the NL Closed.
Stay tuned for other tournament info and as always the info can be found on our website.

Although 2027 may appear to be quite some time away, preparations have already started for the 2027 Canada Games to take place in Quebec. As released earlier the staff for the the games has been determined with Jeremy Lehr serving as Coach and Divine Aseo as Manager.
A reminder for all potential athletes that the NLTTA along with the Coach and Manager has established the process on how the athletes will be selected.
A couple of important items to keep in mind are. . . .
A Canada Games training group will be established by August 31st, 2025. Candidates will be selected from this group.
To join the group, email head coach Jeremy Lehr at jnlehr@mun.ca with you/your child’s: full name, gender, date of birth and town/city of residence.
