Table Tennis Action Everywhere!

Updated: Jan 19

It has been busy few weeks with Table Tennis action occurring on a couple of different fronts across the province from NLTTA sanctioned tournaments and regional tryouts for the upcoming NL Winter Games set for late February in Gander, NL.

On November 25, 2023 over 50 athletes converged on the Rotary Youth and Community Center in Paradise, NL. for the Paradise Open which was the third tournament of the season. The day featured many competitive matches in all events and it was great to see that almost half of the competitors were Junior age players.

The day started with the age event categories and in the Girls U19 Hayley Babstock earned gold giving her two podium finishes for the season. In the Boys U15 event Daniel Patey, also had his second podium finish of the season and Braedon Maloney broke through and earned his fist podium finish in the Boys U15 and Gavin Parsons captured his second gold of the season in Boys U19 with a victory of Adam Wakely.

Divine Aseo captured her second gold of the season in the Senior Female Team Qualifier event with a victory over Madison Clarke and in the Senior Male Team Qualifier Merv Greenham and Nick Hiscock had a hard fought match with Merv prevailing. Jiaqi Mu and Hien Nguyen met in two finals(Rated A Singles and Senior Male A Singles) with Jiaqi prevailing both times. Congratulations to all players on a fine performance. Check out the Paradise Open Media Gallery Page for lots of action photos of the day and big thanks to Peter Quinlan for the photos. Last but not least a big thank you to Merv Greenham and Barry Hicks for managing the desk and the NLTTA thanks all who helped out in anyway.

Team NL Selection

At this point the race for Team NL selection points to represent NL, at the Atlantic Table Tennis Championships set for May 2024 in New Brunswick, is well underway with three of the six NLTTA sanctioned tournaments completed. It has been a very competitive series so far with some interesting twists. No doubt as the second half of the tournament schedule gets underway in January with the Glovertown Open, action is sure to heat up as valuable points are on the line.

Check out the Team NL Selection Points page for a complete breakdown of results for this season.
